Testing and Assembly

Program Overview

The Assembly and Testing team researches and develops new storage devices in order to meet the stringent demand of future needs. The team aims to transform conceptual ideas into actual product development, putting forth fruition of innovative solutions in mechanical testing as well as assembly methodologies of storage devices and subassemblies.

The core competence for the Assembly and Testing team is in product prototype design, assembly processes and build

Highlights

DSI A-Drive

The A-Drive is one of the world’s thinnest 5mm height hybrid hard disk drive in a 2.5’’ form factor, represents the next generation of storage innovation. The whole A-Drive, including hard disk mechanics, assembly tooling and jig, were designed and developed in DSI.

DFA and DFM techniques

DFA/DFM techniques were used in process development and optimization, which leads to the design of assembly tooling and jig.

Extension of existing technologies

Assembly & Test team conducts research and development of new or prevalent technologies to non-storage-related applications. Using axial field motor technology in HDD, a 4mm thin CPU cooling fan was developed

Mechanical testing

Mechanical testing were conducted to assess the following aspects

  • FEM results validation
  • Design specification verification
  • Test to failure
  • Failure Analysis
  • Process development
